Find Out What’s Happening Now.
November 2011
Executive Director’s Report:
October saw an important development for the City of Ketchum with a great turnout for the kickoff event of the 2012 Comprehensive Plan Project, titled “Planning Our Common Future.” On Oct. 26, the city, with some assistance from the KCDC, had approximately 200 people attend the event, with around 40 percent of those between the ages of 20 and 40. Of all the public meetings I’ve attended, this is by far the best participation from this demographic in at least the past five years.
The Comp Plan turns community visions and values into a roadmap for its future, complete with an outline for action. Although the schedule of upcoming events for the continued process has yet to be determined, the city will likely be creating a stand-alone website to help keep the public informed of both what has happened to date and what is up next for this significant project.
On the KCDC front, the board is looking to tackle a project that has been a long-standing priority for our organization and city leaders. The Downtown Walkability Plan for Ketchum’s downtown core.
This plan would include wayfinding, comprehensive signage, street lighting, snow removal and sidewalks. With the addition of the Fourth Street heritage Corridor, the KCDC took a step in the right direction of helping the city become more pedestrian friendly, but the implementation of this plan would truly increase the ease with which people navigated their way through town, whether by foot, bicycle or car.
For more details on any of the KCDC projects or to discuss developing ideas, please feel free to contact me by phone or email. And once again, thank you all for your time, effort and support – it is our volunteers that make the KCDC such a valuable asset to the community.
Sincerely,
Jon Duval
